Live for Films

November 23, 2017

When watching something in 4K it is simply stunning. Almost like a window to the world outside. Hooking up my PC to the projector I watched some of the 4K nature videos on YouTube and you feel like you could step into the scenes. It is impossible to describe in the written word the step up 4K gives you when compared to the current HD images. You just need to try and experience it for yourself.

Once you get it set up to your liking you will find the images are rich, balanced, sharp and dynamic. The projector can deal with fast-moving images without thing becoming blurry. Playing video games was a delight with the processor having no problem keeping up with the fast gameplay ensuring a high-quality gaming experience.

FLYING THE FLAG for affordable 4K projection is this sweetly-styled DLP model from Optoma. Its large screen images are blisteringly sharp – this resolution revolution backed by a 3,000 Lumens brightness punch and shadow-detailing talents that work well with HDR sources.

Colour handling impresses, too, as does the level of calibration/ setup flexibility on offer, including a 1.6x zoom and extensive throw ratio that makes the UHD60 a simple fit for your cinema room.

Techradar

The HD142X is all about quiet brightness. Don’t underestimate how useful is to have a projector that can be used at any time of day, and at the HD142X’s low price, its 3,000 ANSI Lumens is a good value feature.

Expect clean, crisp images with plenty of accurate color, and more contrast and shadow detail within black areas of the image that you’ve a right to expect at this price. And we loved the brightness of the lamp, which meant we could use the HD142X at midday and still see the image clearly.

Long story short, if you’re after a projector that you can take out of a cupboard for the occasional big screen movie or gaming night, the compact, versatile and great value HD142X is hard to beat.

4K projection for the masses

“The question is, how easy is it to set up and how well does it perform? The answer is pretty well on both counts.”

“One thing I was impressed with was the way in which HDR compatibility was dealt with. Some HDR projectors don’t give you much leeway in HDR adjustment, with the result that shadow details are lost to the murk; here, it’s simple to tweak those levels to achieve a watchable image”

“if you want to make the most of your 4K content you need a really big screen and the only way to get that right now without spending thousands of pounds is with a projector like the Optoma 550UHDX. It’s well worth putting on your 4K shortlist.”

Home Cinema Choice

November 8, 2017

“Often with a bright, multi-purpose media-room style PJ there’s a level of compromise, be it in colour fidelity or operating noise. This Optoma gets the presentational balance about right.  It looks convincing with movies but is also a fast, colourful gaming display. And the compact form factor is very convenient.”

HCC verdict:

“This entertaining all-purpose movie and games projector is cinematic when it needs to be, but offers low-lag gaming too. Darbee processing proves a welcome extra.”
